WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE – PRESSURE, EXPECTATIONS AND STILL NO PLAN
There are many blogs talking about things like “What to do in your twenties” or “How To figure out your life when you’re in your twenties”.
But what if you are not even twenty-something and people already expect you to figure out what you want to do with your life? I am 16 and people already ask me what I want to study or what kind of job I want to do later.
Guys, I haven’t even finished school! Chill. I have three more years to go! How would I know what I want?
Sweet 16 ain’t sweet.
People expect you to have your whole life planned out. When and who you want to marry, and what kind of job you want to have.
Loads of my friends already talk about kids and marriage, and what kind of jobs would work with the both. When I say that we don’t have to worry about that kind of stuff just yet they shake their heads at me.
Don’t get me wrong, I want kids but do I have to worry about them when I am 16 years old? There is so much time left and I don’t have to decide right know if I want kids or not! So why is there all this pressure?
WHAT WE SHOULD DO
- Travel – Traveling shows you how you interact with others and how to handle new situations. You meet other people and not only get to know them but also another version of yourself. Do an exchange year or fly away with your peers during break! you will have awesome and fun times, promise.
- Party – You see, here is a 16-year-old talking. But hey, we are young! Do you want to be 40 and not have any fun party stories to tell your kids? I could say something like “don’t drink too much and be careful” but I think you have to figure that out for yourself. Our moms tell us that so I don’t have to do that too.
- Explore – Do things that you haven’t done before. Now is the best time to color your hair purple, pink or green. Now is the time to stay up the whole night talking to your friends. Now is your time! Do what you want to do even though people won’t like it.
- Laugh – Laugh as much as you can. Laugh until you belly hurts. Laughing will help you to lose the pressure.
Live your life. I know that is easier said than done, but we should do what we want to do. Study what we want to. Yes, finishing school is important but you need a life besides school.
