ORGANIZING LIFE WITH PAPER & PEN

HOW TO GET YOUR CREATIVE JUICE FLOWING

CREATIVITY

Creativity. One of the most powerful things in the entire world.

Even though, and maybe because, it is so precious, procrastination takes over may brain whenever I try to capture emotions and ideas with pen and paper. I’m scared I’ll disappoint myself when trying something unknown and different.

Art means a lot to me, and knowing I could fail every time I grab my camera or brush, makes me stop. Because it means so much to me, it also makes me vulnerable. Today, instead of stopping, I grabbed my brush and made the first strokes of a blueish color.

And you know what? It turned out good; surprisingly I’m pleased. Even a week later, my obsession with watercolors hasn’t stopped whatsoever! If that’s possible, it even grew! Trying out something new is scary but opens up a whole new world full of colors and emotions.

WHAT CREATIVITY MEANS TO ME

Creativity is the world’s most powerful weapon. It defeats boredom, hatred and anger. All emotions are captured in a new and unique way. Art flourishes.

What would the world be like without creativity; colors, ideas and actions? It would have been a dreadful place, I’m sure of that. Therefore it is SO important for everyone (yes, I mean YOU!) to open up their world through something creative. Whatever fills your heart, do what you love and explore its possibilities.

Art Van Creativity

You might think you’re not a creative person but you don’t have to be. Another excuse is that you ‘don’t have any talent whatsoever’. That is not true. You don’t need talent; all you need is the courage to start and keep going even when it is hard.

CAPTURE THE BEAUTIFUL

Take advantage of the art that’s around you.

Most time of the day I spend unconsciously scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram without taking in the beauty of it. Make a conscious effort to save the colors, forms and words that are inspiring to you. Later on, try out what you can do with the inspiration you gathered  to make it yours.

Collecting inspirational pieces can transform into a big creativity push but be sure to stop collecting BEFORE you get intimidated by the stuff other’s have created.

Also, get to know new techniques. Whether it is for a painting or a new photography trend, trying out new things is SO exciting and inspiring. In addition to that, adopting different styles makes your own work more interesting.

For creative beginners: In case you have no idea whatsoever, it is totally fine to draw somebody else’s work with some changes. Just be sure to not publish it anywhere due to Copyright.

UNPLUG

Whenever I spend too much time scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest, I feel really insecure about my creations. Therefore, it is really helpful to unplug from the digital world whilst trying to be creative.

BUY INTERESTING SUPPLIES

Wandering around in art supply stores is magical for me. So much to see and explore. Even though some pieces might be expensive, it is totally worth spending some money on new supplies. After buying some, you’ll be eager to get home and try them out.

Last week I bought some really expensive watercolor paper and was so PLEASED! Like I mentioned at the beginning, I am totally obsessed with watercolors at the moment. Maybe some day I’ll show you some of my pieces.  😛

CREATIVITY FOR TWO

Disclaimer: As an Introvert I know this point will not be everyone’s favorite. And that is totally fine!

Creating something beautiful is fun but doing it with someone else is even more fun! You could organize a creativity-day and invite your besties over to your house to create some watercolor pieces (OBSESSED).

Like I said, I am an introvert and hate to get judged by others (even though they may not  judge me at all). Therefore, I don’t like to be creative with others around expect my lil’ brothers. They just spill some colors on the paper and are pleased by the result. Love that!

RELAXED ATMOSPHERE

Music carries emotions and is able to make you feel good. Some artist prefer their environment to be quiet while others like to listen to relaxing music. Add some candles and you’ve created my favorite workspace!

Another interesting point is to observe yourself. When are you most productive and/or creative? I’m not creative (at all!) during the day. But when it gets dark outside, I am all in with my creativity!

BREAK YOUR HABITS

We all have habits; good and bad. Either way, breaking those habits makes you WAY more creative. When I want to create something, I usually sit on the floor because that is the moment when most of my ideas come to me. Also, when I am doing the dishes or cleaning the house, my mind wanders around and some really good thoughts hit me. Immediately afterwards I write them down so I’ll have something to work on when I am less creative.

STOP PROCRASTINATING

Got a degree in Procrastination like I do? We are on the same boat here. I like to think everything through before I start but have to realize that I just have TO START RIGHT NOW. Thinking will not bring me any further on my path. It will not make s*it happen. But my actions do. They make the thinking turn into reality.

Stopping procrastinating can be really hard but it doesn’t have to be if you follow the 5 second rule by Mel Robbins. I highly recommend you to watch this video right here.

So what is the five second rule?

It basically says that if you don’t follow an impulse or idea in the next five seconds after having it, you’ll “pull the emergency brake and kill the idea”. (Mel Robbins Tedx Talk-How to stop screwing yourself over)
